    Nintendo & Playstation

Check out the link and spell this with me: In-tui-tive game-play. Oh My God!

When Nintendo launched their new system, the Wii, one of their goals was:

To reach people that have never played games before, or find it too difficult to step into gaming a this point in time, because everything has gotten so complicated with dual analog sticks, a digital pad and at least 12 buttons. They wanted to do this by making the controls more intuitive..... Mission accomplished!!

Oh and the Playstation 3 launched yesterday. Almost 600 euros! But you get a killer system for it and a blu-ray players if you are into that stuff. The new Ratchet and Clank and the overhauled Ninja Gaiden Sigma look awesome! Can't wait. Good times for gamers. (People seem to conveniently forget that the Playstation 2 cost the same amount of money when it was launched as well) If that 's the case then we'll have 100 euro Playstation 3's in about 6 years! Are you patient?

    Old vid

Allright, so while I was editing my blog, I decided to add an album to upload some of the salsapictures which have been accumulating on my hard drive.

While skimming through my drive I came across an old video of me & Laila dancing @ Salsa Cielo's social dancing. So I thought I'd post it. Might be cool to see myself again after a couple of years.

I have some vids of me and Mautje dancing, but I'd have to go look for them as well, plus they have to pass the Mautje test. Don't want an angry girlfriend breathing down my neck thank you very much.  So if I find them and they meet Mautje's approval, I'll post them as well

    Gotta post it

Well, when going online, you should be aware that you could evoke reactions, since it is quite the public place. You could get text reactions, soemtimes e-mail and sometimes audio/video reactions.

But this is the first time I got a personal reaction! In reaction to my post about gaming and character-forming, I got a cool reaction by Milzy. She got me a page of a magazine about doctors gettign better at their job through gaming. Yet another good purpose to gaming.

    Thanks Milzy!

    Translation for the english people:

The head reads: Sugeons that play computergames get better at laparoscopic operations. (no I don't know what laparoscopic means either)

The text-balloon reads: Wow Gerrit, you are advancing to the highest level!!!

    My Future

Just added a new video to the sidebar. The video is Ms Burju Hurtuk going off with what to me seems to be her hubby. Now Ms Burju is my girlfriend's big role-model and inspiration at this moment.

And my inspiration, or rather my wish and hope for the future, is that we will still be dancing just like they are in that movie. Still on fire, still loving it, still enjoying it and still enjoying each other. And of course I also hope that we as a team are much better dancers/partners/performers in the future I envision.

Inpirational as dancers and inspirational as role-models, that's why I put it up.

May the Universe hear my call....may God answer my prayers because as for as far as I can see, hear, feel and smell it, they are the purest desire to come out of this heart of mine.

    Here's to a bright & hopeful future.

    Epix!

So it's been a while ago since I was trying to give myself a boost and motivate me into getting that coveted level 70 for my main WoW character. And even though it didn't quite happen, I am still happy I had a week off to do whatever the hell I wanted. I only reached level 64 and broke 65 yesterday evening. I have had a lot of fun though, so who cares. I'll get to 70, in my own tempo.

But I did get some new stuff. Yesterday-evening, or early morning I should say, I finally got myself an epic mount in WoW. Not only do they move faster, they look cool too. :) Who dares flee from the Tauren and her epic mounts?

Lok Tar Ogar, For the Horde!

Gotta post em, I worked hard for them.

    Character forming through gaming

I think I already did this once, but I feel the need to do so again. So here goes.

Games have always had negative media attention for a long time now. But I would like to focus on the positive aspects of gaming. The parts that I feel help me through life so far, so it goes a bit beyond improved hand-eye coordination.

    English
Not being a native english speaker, playing lots and lots of roleplaying games has taught me to understand english on a above average level when compared to my friends of the same generation.

    Skill-building
Games have also taught me that in order to get good at something, you need to take your time and get to know it's inner workings. If it's a roleplaying game, you need to make your characters stronger in anticipation of that one hard fight. If it's a racing game, you need to get to know how the cars handle and memorise the tracks. If it's a fighting game, you need to get to know the moves and combos of your character and how to counter the moves and combos of your opponent. You need to try stuff out, analayse, try it again, get better at the timing, the anticipation, at "feeling" the game. Same goes for life. If you think you can't do beter at work/hobby/sport, you can. It just takes time, dedication, practice and a good amount of healthy reasoning.......skill-building.

If you fail the first time....
The old and cliche saying: If you fail the first time, try try again. In the old days you would get stuck trying to do this one boss for days at a time. The first time he/she seems impossible. The second time, you start to see holes in their defense or a weakness to a certain attack. Then when you understand what you need to do, you still need to get over the mental blockade. Meaning, you need to learn to stay calm and focus on the task at hand. A great lesson if any. After you beat the boss about 3 times, you will be able to do it almost automatically any time you play the game again.

    Don't judge a book by it's cover
Just because you are good at a certain type of game, doesn't mean that your good at any game of that genre. You could be awesome at Quake, but suck at Unreal Tournament or Halo. You could be godlike at Final Fantasy, but suck at Grandia or Jade Empire. You could rock at Project Gotham Racing, but suck at Burnout. Don't judge a book by it's cover. First try them out, because every game(-franchise) is unique. just because one game (person) of a certain style (race) is like that, it doesn't mean they all are.
