    inspiration

I had already posted a blog about this (which can be found here: http://fleppie.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!398ACCAC07194EB8!650.entry)

But I just have to psot about this again, because sometimes we forget

I hope that through my dancing, teaching and future shows I can touch people like this...

    Stuff I had (not) forgotten

I've been back from my country of birth, Suriname, for a couple of months now. But I've been busy trying to keep up with everything and thus haven't had much time to do blogs and stuff. Not that it isn't busy right now. It is 3 in the morning and I still have so much to do.  But I am the point where you go: Screw this, if I don't do something I want to do, I'll strangle somebody.

On a side-note, the work has all been worth it: Once again we have a full beginners group. Now to work on those higher level groups. Come on people stick with the dancing!

Anyways, while going through my notes, I came across my list of things I had forgotten about Suriname versus the list of things I had not forgotten about Suriname. So here goes:

After 3 years, this is the stuff I had forgotten about Suriname:

    1. The HEAT, that sh*t hits you the moment you get off the plane and burns straight through your clothes
    2. The feeling of that heat literally washing off you when you go take your 5th shower of the day
    3. The heavy heavy rains Suriname has, sometimes it feels like the raindrops are the size of ping-pong balls
    4. The beauty of so much green surrounding you
    5. The absolute inefficency of small bussines'
    6. The way dogs in Suriname howl simultaneously at night, an awesome sound
    7. The dog-parties we have when a female dog (didn't want to say bitch Uitgestoken tong) is in heat and all male dogs from the neighbourhood are camping out in front of the house for days on end

Now, after 3 years, the stuff I didn't forget:

    1. How people always find a way
    2. The undying loyalty of true friendship
    3. The social control of this little village called Paramaribo
    4. That there still isn't a lot constructive for the youth to do besides traditional schooling
    5. The food is still awesome, best in the world
    6. Talking all night about nothing at all can still really give you a sense of fullfilment
    7. Some people never change and never will change
    8. Though Suriname grows pretty slowly, it most certainly does grow

Those were my personal thoughts as I wrote them down on the plane flying back here. We're getting there, Suriname style, one day at a time....
